Book Arts Project

In my English class we made books about a planet that we invented. It all started when my teacher met a woman named Peg Gignoux who is a very famous famous artist. Ms. Gignoux helped out in our classroom to make our books. In order to make them sturdy we used Akua ink which is a thin paint that we used to paint the paper and to paint shapes of trees. It was a very fun project and it turned out really cool. Visit gignouxart.com if you want to see Ms.Gignoux’s art.

My Story

I first heard this story from my dad when I was six. This story is important to me because it inspires me to overcome obstacles.

My dad was in fifth grade when this kid named Roland was picking on him and pushing him around. Roland would push him into walls and bully him on the bus all the time. Roland was an eighth grader at the time and that was a huge age difference between him and my dad. My dad never knew how to stick up for himself so he would just take the beatings and cry.

My dad was walking to get onto the bus when Roland saw him and started making fun of him. My dad said “Stop it Roland!” It clearly didn’t work so Roland threw face first right into the wall and he started crying in pain. My dad’s sister was a sophomore in high school so when she saw him crying she went up to him and Roland to see what was wrong. She got so mad at Roland for hurting him that she screamed “Stop picking on my brother! Do you understand me! DO YOU?!” Roland was so scared he said “uhh, uhm, no.” The very next day Roland was mad at my dad’s sister for scaring him so badly so he took it out on my dad by pushing my dad off of the bus stairs and he fell, scraping his forearm and injuring his upper body. My dad had this radio that he listened to all the time and when Roland pushed him his radio broke. My dad wasn’t even mad about being hurt; he was just so mad that his radio was broken. My dad was bruised and crying but he didn’t even care. He got up and punched Roland in the face eight times before the bus driver stopped him. Roland’s parents knocked on the door to have a meeting with my dad and the principal. When the meeting started Roland’s parents explained what my dad did to him and the evidence was on Roland’s face, but my dad explained all the terrible things Roland did leading up to the incident. My dad was let go and Roland was in trouble big time.

Moral of the Story: Don’t be a bully and don’t let people drag you down!

My Opinion About The New Building At My School (Choice Blog)

In my opinion, the new building was a good overall investment for my school. First of all, I need to state that my school decided to demolish the old buildings and replace them with a new building.

What I like about the new building…

I like how there aren’t cockroaches bleakly glaring up at you under a table while you in the middle of class. The new rooms are much cleaner and more modern than the old ones. There are also more group workspaces in the building.

What I dislike about the new building…

I dislike how it is out of the way from every other class. I came from LA to Math and I was five minutes late just because they are in different buildings compared to just having one building. I also dislike how each room looks the same and are all just white while the classrooms in the other buildings are colorful and decorated. Each room feels like you are crammed in a hallway.

Play Review

Recently, at my school there was a theatrical performance made by professional actors, not just students at our school. There was one titled “the necklace” by Guy de Maupassant. It is about this woman who borrows a necklace for a ball and then loses it. In order to pay it back she flees and finds a job that takes her and her husband years to pay back. Eventually when she saves up enough money to pay it back she finds out that it was a fake necklace and it was all for nothing. I will provide an image of the performance below. I really appreciated that these people came to our school to preform for us. I also got to miss history so that was a plus.

Terry Virts

Recently, a man named Terry Virts came to our school to describe his experiences as an astronaut. Terry was a colonel  in the US Air Force, A former NASA astronaut, International Space Station Commander, and is currently an author. Terry talked about his spacewalks, his training, his life in a spaceship, his time in the Air Force, and some things to consider when going to space, but what interested a ton was how cool the northern lights look from space. It looks like green glass shattered across the top of the northern hemisphere. I was also concerned about the landing process. Turns out that they use ballistic capsules, heat shields, and parachutes to land safely. Thank you to Terry Virts for coming to our school, and make sure to check out Terry’s amazing books! I will provide some of Terry’s photographs below.

The Stock Market Project

Introduction

In my language arts class, we are working on a project that relates to the stock market. You might wonder “how does the stock market relate to English class?” And to that I say “I have answers.” Back about three or four weeks ago we started reading a book called The Westing Game and it is a mystery book about this really rich man named Sam Westing who gets murdered unexpectedly. He decides to do the most logical thing which is he turns his murder into a game. One of sixteen heirs that was invited to his funeral murdered him. Whichever heir finds out who murdered him gets his will. You also may be wondering “how does this random book relate to the stock market?” And to that I say “I have answers.” This book relates to the stock market because the main character in the book, Turtle Wexler thinks that the stock market relates to how she can win the game because Sam Westing loves games and she get all that sweet money.

My Project and What I Invested In

I invested in three companies. First, I invested in Home Depot because most people build things in the summer and the price was pretty low I also invested in them because summer is near. Second, I invested in The Walt Disney Company because the price was really low and it was tempting. Now that I look back at it I can understand that it was terrible reason. And finally, I invested in the goat Toyota Motor Corporation and if I didn’t I would have to declare bankruptcy, but no I am still hanging on. Just kidding im already at the bottom of the pit because I’m down nearly four hundred bucks. Home Depot and Disney were bad decisions but Toyota was a great one!

North Carolina Museum of Life and Science

In this blog post I will tell you about the time that I went on a field trip with my school to the North Carolina Museum of life and science.

Chapter 1- The morning-We came to school around 7:45 to go to the band teachers room to introduce us to the trip and how we should behave on it. We sat there for an hour before we got on the buses.

Chapter 2- The Bus Ride- The driver Robert was amazing and I am so happy we had him along with us. Many people were singing a song about how many bottles were on the wall which got annoying after about two hundred times.

Chapter 3- Arrival- When we got there we had a quick preparation from the staff and my group began the trip at the third floor, then we went to the fourth, finally we went back down and did the first and second floor.

Chapter 4- My favorite exhibit- We went to the dinosaur exhibit which was pretty cool when I was able to learn about the different dinosaurs and the cool visual representation of it.

Chapter 5- The finale- Once we left the museum we went to the NC capitol building and looked at all the memorials of racist people. Kind of strange why they honored those people. I would think that we would forget them and if they are brought up we should look down on them. We went back to the school and went home. Moral of the story: Don’t be racist, everyone is equal. Thank you so much for letting our school come to your terrific Museum!

My Planet

We are reading The Last Cuentista by Barbara Higuera. The earth is hit by Halley’s Comet and people have to move to a new planet to live. We got to imagine a perfect planet to move if that happened to us. Here is mine: Najox

Atmosphere and Location

My planet is called Najox and it is in the Andromeda Galaxy. I named the planet Najox because it is my name scrambled. My planet will have a strong atmosphere to protect the people from comets and meteors from hitting it. Every week on Sunday it will rain hard to keep the plants alive because the rest of the week there will be clear skies. My surface area is roughly the size of Asia and has a population of three billion people.

Details

I will have a red fire moon and a blue fire moon that will heat up each side to sustain the tropic theme of the planet. My planet will have lots of beaches and palm trees. It will be tropical year round. My planet will also have pink oceans. The water in the ocean can be filtered by stirring it well.

Food Supply

In my world there will be tons of cows and chickens, for steak, eggs, and milk. There will also be bees, insects, birds, and fish. Unhealthy foods are non-existent in order to live long healthy lives. There will be a similar food supply to earth like grocery stores and restaurants.

Government and Political Systems

My planet will be a representative and direct democracy for everyone. My planet will be a capitalist economy. The prisons are designed for improving the prisoners, not punishing them. Apps that waste your time are not permitted, we need productivity on this planet.

Transportation

There are many ways to travel around Najox. One way to travel is riding your personal dragon that was assigned to you when you were born. Another way to travel is eco friendly teleportation pods. These pods are fueled by dragon manure. Finally, you can ride your water bicycle around the islands. The water bicycle is like a normal bicycle except you can activate a flotation device in order to ride around on the water.

A Day in the Life of a Najoxian

7:00- We wake up, brush our teeth, and eat breakfast which contains mostly oats and fruits.

8:00- We may go for a swim in the ocean.

9:00- When we take a break from swimming we may eat a fresh coconut off of a tree.

11:00  We eat lunch which consists mostly of sandwiches and vegetables.

12:00 Go bungee jumping! The gravity here is so low that many activities that are dangerous on earth are safe here on Najox!

3:00 We fish a ton! There are huge fish in the pink oceans here!

5:00 We cook all the fish that we catch.

6:00 Enjoy the fish for dinner with your family!

9:00 We go to sleep.
